ABV Directory Standards

Listings & Review Policy

How businesses are included, how reviews are presented,
and how to report information that needs attention.

Last updated: October 16, 2026

Our directory standards focus on relevant services, accurate locations, and clear review sources. Use this page to understand what a listing means and how to request a correction.

1. Purpose of This Policy

This policy sets out ABV’s standards for including HVAC businesses, organizing directory information, handling corrections, and displaying reviews. It applies to directory content and review features available on www.ab-v.com.

ABV is a directory and information website. Listed businesses operate independently. Inclusion helps visitors find business information; it does not establish that a business has been inspected, licensed, insured, or approved by ABV.

Our directory is not a complete register of every HVAC business. An absent listing does not, by itself, indicate a problem with a business.

2. Which Businesses We Include

The directory focuses on businesses offering services relevant to air conditioning, heating, heat pumps, indoor air quality, ductwork and vents, or water heaters. A listing needs an identifiable business, a relevant service offering, and information sufficient to place it in the appropriate location.

Requests should include the business name, actual business location, official website or contact details, and the relevant services. Information must describe a real operating business rather than a fabricated office, misleading lead-generation identity, or unrelated product listing.

A chain or franchise location is considered on its own location and service information. A brand’s presence elsewhere does not establish that it has a qualifying location in a particular city.

3. City and Location Rules

City pages are intended for businesses with an actual physical business location inside the named city. Serving customers in that city is not enough for inclusion on its city page.

Businesses located in neighboring, separately governed cities or towns are excluded from that city page, even if they advertise service there. For example, the Buffalo city page is not a general Buffalo metropolitan-area directory.

A postal city name, ZIP code, map-search label, county name, or stated service radius does not by itself establish that an address falls within the city’s boundaries. If the location cannot be established, the business should not be assigned to that city page until the uncertainty is resolved.

A branch qualifies only for the locality where that branch is physically located. Where a page explicitly covers a town, village, or other named locality, its stated geographic scope applies. Browse other locations through the New York State directory.

4. Information Sources and Updates

Listing information can come from a business’s official website, public business information, permitted third-party data sources, or information supplied by the business or its representative. Each source has its own limitations and applicable use conditions.

Business names, locations, telephone numbers, opening hours, services, and website links can change. A directory entry may not reflect a recent change at its source. Confirm important details with the business before making arrangements.

Public availability does not make photographs, reviews, or other protected material free to reuse. Source identification, attribution, and applicable permissions must be respected when third-party material is displayed.

If information appears outdated, send us the listing link and a source that supports the correction. We do not promise a fixed refresh interval for every field or listing.

5. Service Categories and Duplicate Listings

Service categories should reflect work the business actually offers, supported by available information. A general HVAC description alone does not establish every specialist service. Confirm the particular work you need directly with the business.

Duplicate records for the same business at the same location may be consolidated. Distinct, genuine branches can have separate entries when their locations and contact information can be distinguished.

The same office must not be represented as separate local branches merely because it serves several cities. Category assignments and duplicate handling should make the directory easier to use, rather than inflate the apparent number of businesses.

6. Corrections, Claims and Removal Requests

Anyone can report inaccurate listing information. To submit or claim information on behalf of a business, you must be its owner or an authorized representative. We may ask for supporting information, such as an official website reference or a reply from a business email address.

Identify the listing, the information at issue, the requested change, and a reliable supporting source. For a closure, relocation, or duplicate, explain which location or record is affected. Privacy concerns can also be raised through the contact details below.

Possible outcomes include correcting details, changing a category or location assignment, consolidating a duplicate, or removing an entry that no longer fits the directory. Requests are assessed on their information and applicable obligations; submission does not guarantee a particular outcome.

Claiming a business does not grant control over other people’s independent reviews. A request to remove a listing and a complaint about a review are considered separately.

7. What a Listing Does Not Verify

A listing, claimed profile, rating, or prominent position is not evidence that ABV has checked every aspect of a business. In particular, it does not by itself verify professional licensing, insurance, background checks, code compliance, workmanship, or suitability for your property.

If a verification label is used, its stated scope matters. Checking control of a business email or profile is different from checking a professional qualification. Do not infer a broader check than the explanation supports.

Before hiring, ask the business about the qualifications, insurance, permits, written scope, pricing, and warranties relevant to your project. ABV does not guarantee a service outcome.

8. Review and Rating Sources

A rating supplied by a third-party platform is that platform’s rating, not an ABV customer score. Where Google Maps reviews or ratings are displayed, the provider and required author attribution must remain identifiable, with source links where required.

A displayed selection may contain only some of the reviews available at its source. The source’s total rating can therefore differ from an average of the excerpts visible on ABV. Scores and counts may also change at the source.

Reviews submitted directly to ABV, where that feature is available, must be distinguished from externally sourced reviews. Different sources must not be combined into an unexplained score. Displaying a review does not mean ABV independently confirmed the underlying transaction.

9. Rules for Submitted Reviews

If ABV accepts direct review submissions, write about your own genuine experience with the business. Explain the service or interaction involved and give enough context to make the feedback useful. Separate personal opinions from factual allegations.

  • Do not invent a customer, transaction, experience, or review author.
  • Do not post on behalf of unrelated customers or use multiple accounts to influence a rating.
  • Do not offer or accept a reward that depends on a positive or negative review.
  • Disclose employment, ownership, family relationships, or other material connections with the business, and any incentive received.
  • Do not include spam, threats, discriminatory abuse, or another person’s private details.

Business representatives may provide factual responses where that feature is available, but must not pose as independent customers. A genuine account may describe a positive, negative, or mixed experience.

10. Moderation and Fair Treatment

Positive and negative reviews are subject to the same standards. A low rating, honest criticism, or a business’s disagreement is not, on its own, a reason for removal.

Content may be declined, restricted, or removed for reasons such as fabricated experiences, impersonation, rating manipulation, spam, unlawful material, or inappropriate disclosure of private information. We may request clarification when a specific concern needs to be checked.

Moderation must not change a reviewer’s meaning or make a negative account sound positive. Payment or a commercial relationship must not determine whether an otherwise compliant review is retained.

ABV can review content displayed on its own website. A decision here does not change the original content held by an external review platform; reports about that original content may also need to be made to the source.

11. Listing Order and Paid Placements

A business’s position on a page is not a quality certification or a guarantee that it is the best choice. Use the filters, sorting options, and explanations shown on the page when interpreting results.

If paid placements, sponsored listings, or affiliate arrangements are used, their commercial nature must be disclosed near the relevant content. A paid or featured position does not establish that ABV has verified licensing, insurance, or service quality.

Commercial arrangements must not be used to buy favorable reviews, suppress compliant criticism, or disguise advertising as an independent customer recommendation. The ordering or selection of reviews should be explained at the review display where necessary to avoid a misleading impression.

12. How to Report a Concern

Use our Contact Us page or email [email protected]. For a listing or review concern, include:

  1. The business name and the ABV page link.
  2. The specific field, review, rating, or other content involved.
  3. A clear description of the concern and the correction or action requested.
  4. Relevant supporting links or records, and your relationship to the business or review.

Share only what is needed to explain the issue. Redact unrelated personal information from supporting records. Do not send passwords, payment card numbers, or unnecessary identity documents.

We may seek further information before deciding what action is appropriate. If you believe a decision missed relevant information, reply with that information and request another review. A report does not automatically remove content, and no specific response deadline is promised here.

ABV handles website content concerns. Contract, payment, workmanship, or safety disputes may also need to be raised with the business or an appropriate authority.

13. Updates and Related Policies

This policy may be updated as the directory and its available features change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.

Read our Terms of Use for general website rules and our Privacy Policy for information about personal data and privacy requests. This policy does not limit rights or obligations under applicable law.
